Into the Woods Auditions

Into the Woods

Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim

Book by James Lapine

The BCHS Theater Department is looking forward to this beautiful musical filled with all of the classic fairy tales. Into the Woods was inspired by Bruno Bettelheim's 1976 book, The Uses of Enchantment, and blends in several Brothers Grimm fairy tales. Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel explore the consequences of their personal wishes and quests in life. These favorite fairytale classics are joined by the original story of a childless Baker and his wife attempting to reverse a curse put on his family by an evil witch in order to have a child of their own.

Into the Woods opened on Broadway at the Martin Beck Theatre on November 5, 1987 and performed 764 shows before closing on September 3, 1989. The original production brought home three 1988 Tony Awards (Best Actress in a Musical, Joanna Gleason, Best Book, James Lapine, and Best Original Score, Stephen Sondheim), the 1988 New York Drama Critics' Circle Award and the Drama Desk Award for Best Musical. Into the Woods won a Grammy Award for it's original cast recording. On April 30, 2002, the Broadway revival of Into the Woods opened at the Broadhurst Theatre and closed December 29, 2002 after a run of 18 previews and 279 regular performances. The revival won the Tony Awards for Best Revival of a Musical and Best Lighting Design.

Auditions are scheduled to be November 26-30. Students are expected to prepare a song from the musical and readings will be provided at the audition. If you have any questions, please feel free to stop by our classroom or email either Ms.Gay or Mrs.Williams. You may also contact us if you are interested in working on the backstage crew or set building crew.

Rumors

Rumors, (pictures) the fall BCHS comedy, made you laugh until you cried! Yes, the challenge was set and the brilliant cast of very talented young men and women came together full force to accept and rise above the task set before them. What was the challenge you ask? Two words…. Be funny! If you ask this cast comprised of Will Smith (10), Brandin Myrick (12), Michael Joiner (9), Brooke Bonner (12), Doug Morley (12), Alexis Tarver (9), Bradley Karel (10), Lindsey Sutherland (12), Chandler Duffel (11), Lauren Norton (12) and stage manager Heater Davidson (12), they will assure you that it was easier said than done. Rumors required comedic timing and side-splitting delivery of the most intricate lines written by Neil Simon, the most eclectic playwrights of all time. After six grueling weeks of rehearsals, the auditorium was filled with energetic audiences who fell out of their seats with laughter. Rumors made you leave the theatre laughing the whole way home.
